Page 3 of 3 For some, the month’s definitive event will be Heppner’s recital Sept. 16. The great Canadian tenor will be joined by collaborative pianist John Hess, professor of chamber music and accompanying at UWO’s Don Wright Faculty of Music. The recital is to include songs by Britten, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius and Grieg, operatic arias, and a selection of popular parlour songs. For some, the month’s definitive event will be Heppner’s recital Sept. 16. The month has its share of fests. Aggression brings punk, metal and more — dozens of bands in all — to the Embassy. On the same weekend, Sept. 14-16, the multi-disciplinary Arts Quest fest has music, fashion and workshops at venues including the Spriet Family Theatre, Under the Volcano and a temporary space at 361 Richmond St. (south of King). The next week brings the multi-disciplinary LOLA fest with music and events Sept. 20-23. Two core days, Sept. 21-22, include music at Victoria Park. If I’m not there on Friday, Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. when the Two-Minute Miracles play, please drag me over and we’ll enjoy this fine London band. As for other attractions and distractions, I will make only one prediction. R&B stylist Akon will put on another lacklustre show at the John Labatt Centre. No one will care because Akon will take off his shirt — and because he has the cool sense to appear here when there’s a top female star on the bill. Last time, it was Gwen Stefani. This time it’s Rihanna, on Sept. 23.
